However, geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions are undermining the essential mutual trust and complementarity. China Merchants Energy Shipping is committed to rebuilding international confidence through extensive cooperation, in particular through its involvement in the Belt and Road Initiative, which connects over 150 countries.

This is the grand era and backdrop against which WORLD MARITIME is launched. Shipping carries over 80% of global trade. As a journal initiated by China Merchants Energy Shipping, WORLD MARITIME stands at the forefront, riding the tide of the times. It is committed to winning global trust, advocating for green transportation, and shaping a sustainable future for shipping. This journal, themed "Trust and Transformation in Global Shipping," aims to create an exchange platform combining academic rigor with practical orientation.

WORLD MARITIME integrates academic wisdom with industry experience, gathering insights from IMO experts, Clarksons analysts, and leading scholars. This issue explores zero-carbon technologies, AI in logistics, and IMO 2023 regulations, offering practical solutions. Through such high-level fora as the 2025 World Maritime Merchants Forum and leveraging Hong Kong's strategic position, it will be a voice of the industry.

WORLD MARITIME has a global vision while being rooted in Hong Kong. It embodies the city's goals to "elevate its status as an international shipping centre," "deepen international exchange and cooperation," and "give full play to Hong Kong's unique advantages."

Through regular and mutual learning and exchange, I believe a new era of shipping—defined by mutual trust, reciprocity, mutual benefit, and sustainability—will emerge on the horizon.
